Pakistani-American Top Chef contestant Fatima Ali passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Ali, who moved to New York at the age of 18, was diagnosed with cancer in October, 2018 — after initially being declared cancer-free.
Ali, 29 who was voted “fan favorite” during the last season of Top Chef revealed that doctors had told her she had only one year to live. She had been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, in 2017.
Ali appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show in November, where she spoke of her dreams of travelling the world and eating at her favourite places.
At the end of the interview, DeGeneres surprised Ali with a check for $50,000 from Shutterfly to help ensure that she experiences everything she wants.
Ali’s co-stars on Top Chef had set up a GoFundMe page to support her travels and final wishes with any funds that she does not use will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

I know it’s been ages since I posted and most may have figured out why. I’m sick and unfortunately I’m getting sicker. Right now all I need are prayers; prayers that are simple. I hope, because a wish is putting on too much responsibility on the other, that you will somehow find forgiveness in your big heart for whenever I must have hurt you. I thank you a million times over for when you have given me joy. I’ll try to keep everyone updated the best that I possibly can.

All those years where my grandmother would mould my infantile head with a raw rice pillow proved to have its benefits. #bald #smol #orb

Sorry I’ve been MIA for the past few weeks. My last round of chemotherapy is DONE. After being hospitalized for acute pain in my lower back that they now think could be chemo related bone necrosis, my docs recommended that I not take my last scheduled dose and I’m more than happy to oblige. I’m back home, my hair is growing and I need a few more weeks rest before I can get back into gear. As for the bit about my bone dying, I had no idea that could even happen. But hey at least the cancers not back  #fuckcancer #byechemo
