Justice Ayesha Malik Background
Justice Ayesha completed her undergraduate and law school education both in Pakistan and abroad, including at Harvard Law School. From 1997 to 2001, she worked as an assistant to the former chief election commissioner and eminent jurist Justice Fakhruddin Ibrahim.
The 55-year-old judge is also a founding member of the law firm founded by Justice Qazi Faez Isa. She is an expert in constitutional, banking, and human rights matters.
It’s stated on the LHC website that she has taught banking and mercantile law at various Pakistani universities. In Pakistan, England, and Australia, she has been called upon to handle cases involving child custody, divorce, women’s rights, and women’s constitutional protection.
The judge has worked with a number of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on projects aimed at combating poverty, providing access to microfinance, and developing workforce capabilities. She has also served as the country’s representative for Oxford University Press’ Oxford Reports for International Law in Domestic Courts.
In light of her decision on the medical examination of female victims of sexual violence, Justice Ayesha is a major figure. Other notable decisions made by the Sharif family include a decision to halt construction of sugar mills in the Rahim Yar Khan area of South Punjab.
A private law college principal and lawyer, Humayun Ehsan, is the judge’s wife and mother of their three children.
