Veteran screenwriter Nasir Adeeb expresses strong disapproval of character portrayals in Faiza Iftikhar’s popular drama Mitti De Baway.
Veteran Pakistani screenwriter Nasir Adeeb sparked controversy after criticizing acclaimed writer Faiza Iftikhar over her characterization in the ongoing television drama Mitti De Baway. Airing on Green Entertainment, the show features a high-profile ensemble cast including Mahira Khan and Wahaj Ali under the direction of Syed Wajahat Hussain. During a recent interview on the Voice of Click Me Pakistan podcast hosted by Feroze Chaudhary, the legendary screen icon raised serious objections regarding the portrayal of a female character belonging to a Sadaat (Syed) family background.

With a legendary career writing classic Pakistani cinema hits including the iconic Maula Jatt franchise, Nasir Adeeb remains one of the most authoritative voices in local entertainment scriptwriting. His latest commentary reflects broader debates surrounding character choices in contemporary television storytelling, where veteran writers frequently examine moral narratives framed by television networks. Produced jointly by Tehreem Chaudhary and Nina Kashif, the drama continues to dominate viewership charts despite the thematic friction surrounding its script structure.

During the podcast episode, the senior writer explicitly pointed out his grievances regarding a character named Billo. He highlighted that portraying a Syed woman engaging in vices like drinking and smoking while falling in love hastily felt unnecessary for breaking social stereotypes. Furthermore, he challenged a controversial dialogue delivered by the character Bala regarding women, stating firmly that he refuses to accept the idea that women are inherently corrupt.

As prime-time television content pushes boundaries to spark discussions, viewers remain divided on whether creative freedom should override traditional respect for specific social groups. Will the makers address these critical observations as the narrative progresses?
