Pakistani film icon Shaan Shahid weighs in on the Maula Jatt debate, firmly stating his preference for the original classic over Bilal Lashari’s blockbuster remake.
Veteran Pakistani film star Shaan Shahid recently stirred up a significant debate within the entertainment industry and among fans. Appearing on a Geo TV podcast hosted by Mubashar Hashmi, the actor openly shared his strong opinions regarding the cinematic phenomenon, The Legend of Maula Jatt, drawing direct comparisons to its 1979 predecessor, Maula Jatt. His remarks have since gone viral, igniting discussions about the legacy and impact of both films.

Shaan Shahid, a name synonymous with Pakistani cinema, boasts an illustrious career marked by numerous action-packed hits including Waar, Khuda Kay Liye, Zarrar, and Yalghaar. Born into a distinguished showbiz family, he carries the legacy of his father, legendary director Riaz Shahid, and his mother, the esteemed actress Neelo Begum. His consistent presence on screen was recently highlighted by the release of two back-to-back films, Bhullah and Psycho, which resonated well with his dedicated fanbase. During the podcast, when asked if director Bilal Lashari had approached him for the lead role in The Legend of Maula Jatt, Shaan Shahid candidly stated, “He didn’t approach me. Everyone has their own group or comfort zone where they feel comfortable. Everyone feels comfortable with their own people or friends. Sometimes, working with experienced people isn’t good for them because it becomes challenging. They think experienced people will get all the praise and credit. That’s his call; he has his own group.” He then added a striking comparison: “I have seen the original classic Maula Jatt, not the new one The Legend of Maula Jatt. Original one was remarkable. I have seen the real Maula Jatt after which one cannot enjoy the copied one.” His words left no room for ambiguity regarding his preference.

Shaan Shahid‘s bold statement has undoubtedly sparked a fervent debate among cinephiles. While The Legend of Maula Jatt broke box office records and garnered international acclaim, the original Maula Jatt holds a revered place in Pakistani cinema history. It prompts the question: can a remake ever truly surpass the legacy of its predecessor, especially in the eyes of an icon like Shaan Shahid? Fans are now weighing in, comparing both films and discussing the merits of each in light of his powerful critique.
