Veteran Pakistani actor Jan Rambo reveals how television sidelines film stars from meaningful roles, sparking debate on industry bias.
Veteran Pakistani actor Jan Rambo has worked in hundreds of films, building a reputation on razor-sharp comic timing and electrifying dance moves. Now, in a candid appearance on Javeria Saud‘s show Javeria Reloaded, he pulled back the curtain on what he calls the television industry’s deep-rooted discrimination against film actors. The actor, who transitioned from Lollywood to television alongside his wife Sahiba — herself a celebrated film star — during the final days of Pakistan’s film industry, did not hold back his frustration.

Jan Rambo belongs to a generation of performers who carried Pakistani cinema on their shoulders. Known for his impeccable comic timing and dynamic dancing ability, he appeared in hundreds of films throughout his career. His wife Sahiba also starred in the industry, and the couple worked together during cinema’s twilight years. When the local film industry collapsed, like many of his contemporaries, Jan Rambo shifted to television — but the transition has been far from smooth.

Speaking on the show, Jan Rambo drew a sharp contrast between the golden era of Pakistani cinema and today’s television landscape. He pointed out that legends like Javed Sheikh and Nadeem Baig were true stars who received substantial character roles in their youth, often performing dances and action sequences that anchored entire films. By the time these actors were ready for mature, story-driven parts, the industry itself had crumbled. Jan Rambo expressed clear dissatisfaction, noting that despite having the energy and craft to deliver, television producers have not offered him the kind of meaningful roles his talent deserves.
His comments have reignited a broader conversation about how Pakistani television treats film veterans — often relegating them to comedic cameos rather than substantial dramatic parts. With decades of experience and a fan base that spans generations, Jan Rambo’s frustration raises an uncomfortable question: will the small screen ever give these cinematic heroes the respect they have earned?
