Veteran actress and singer Salma Agha candidly explains her reasons for choosing to reside in India, clarifying her nationality and deep-rooted connections across borders.
Veteran actress and singer Salma Agha recently opened up about her decision to reside in India rather than Pakistan, clarifying her long-standing ties and nationality during an appearance on Jahanzeb Awan’s podcast. Her candid discussion shed light on her personal journey and professional experiences across both nations.

Salma Agha, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, dominated the Pakistani film scene in the 1980s and early 1990s. Her debut in the Indian film Nikaah catapulted her to stardom, followed by notable performances in movies like Patti Patni Aur Tawaif and Qasam Paida Karne Wale Ki. She also shared a significant on-screen and off-screen bond with acclaimed actor Javed Sheikh. Currently, Salma Agha divides her time between India and Dubai, and her daughter, Zara Khan, is also making her mark as an artist in Bollywood. You can follow her journey on Salma Agha’s official Instagram.

Responding to the host’s direct question, “Why did you choose India over Pakistan?”, Agha clarified, “It is good that you asked this question because I never had Pakistani nationality. I was never a Pakistani citizen because we migrated to the UK. We all have British passports, and my mother and grandmother were both from Amritsar, India. I just worked in Pakistan. It was a memorable time; I had a beautiful time there. I had friends there. We love their technicians, artists, and dramas. We love Pakistani dramas here in India. Art has no boundaries. I don’t have Indian nationality. I have an Indian card and a British passport. We are allowed to live there. India gave us love and respect.” This statement underscores her unique position, holding a British passport while maintaining strong cultural and professional ties to India.

Salma Agha’s journey highlights the fluid nature of identity and professional allegiances in the global entertainment landscape. Her explanation offers fans a deeper understanding of her personal choices and her continued appreciation for both industries.
