Geo TV drama series Nashtar draws intense public backlash after airing a scene featuring alcohol consumption.
Geo TV drama series Nashtar has sparked widespread outrage following the broadcast of its 23rd episode. Audiences voiced severe disapproval over a sequence depicting protagonist Shah Dawood consuming alcohol while contemplating getting closer to his wife, Bareera, whom he married against her will. Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, the popular show faces mounting criticism from viewers who argue that such depictions violate local cultural norms and religious values on prime-time television.

The series, penned by Maha Malik and directed by Seraj Ul Haq, features a star-studded cast led by Danish Taimoor alongside Anmol Baloch, Usman Peerzada, Haroon Shahid, and Mahmood Aslam. Danish Taimoor, widely celebrated for his dramatic roles, now finds himself at the center of public discourse due to the intense nature of the recent storyline, which highlights the forced marriage narrative between the lead characters.

Social media platforms blew up with angry reactions immediately after the scene aired. Unhappy netizens slammed the showrunners, pointing out that screenwriters could easily convey dark character traits without showcasing forbidden substances. Critical comments questioned the necessity of including alcohol on family television, with several users stressing that repeated exposure to such visual elements risks normalizing taboo behaviors among younger audiences.

As public pressure builds against the show, television networks face growing scrutiny over content regulation and creative choices in prime-time Pakistani serials. Will the production team adjust their narrative direction in response to viewer feedback, or will the storyline continue its current dramatic path?
