A Bug or New Feature Under Test – Instagram Shows Horizontal Feed & Users Not Happy About It

Instagram Starts Testing a Horizontal Feed & Users Freaked Out

Yesterday, Instagram shifted the vertical scrolling to horizontal feed for some users but it was just for testing purpose. As users are more comfortable with vertical scrolling of feed because they are experiencing it since the app launched, so people showed their dissatisfaction over the company’s testing. Back in October, Instagram had been testing the feature in the Explore section.

However, Instagram said that it accidentally rolled out a design change to some of the users but after complaints from users of the Facebook-owned social network, it quickly ended test.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri commented on Twitter:

The horizontal feed was meant to be “a small test” that “went broader than we anticipated.”

However, Facebook spokesperson contradicted that in a statement, he said:

“Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.”

In the new design, all posts turn into a single, giant Instagram story. With the horizontal feed, each photo and ad was given the spotlight at any given time. Users were only able to see a single post while the comments were more prominent.

With the new layout, it was not so easy to quickly fly through the feed.
