A man is never questioned on the merit of receiving an award, says actor Mehwish Hayat. She says there is lack of knowledge and awareness about the categories of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and other civilian awards. “I have been awarded in the category of acting. If any other [female] actor was given the same award, they would be trolled too.” Hayat was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on March 23 along with 171 other people.
Actress Mehwish Hayat recently received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for her achievement in the Pakistani media industry but along with it came a lot of criticism and degrading remarks.
“To suggest that I slept my way to this award is an abhorrent slur on all the hard working women in our country. We may be part of an industry that is seen to be glamorous but it doesn’t mean that we have forsaken our morals. What gives anybody the right to drag my name into the gutter with crude insinuations. You don’t know me!” she said.
She thanked the people who had supported her
