Journalism is not an easy profession. It requires courage, passion, and dedication to uncover the truth and inform the public. For some journalists, it also involves risking their lives in dangerous situations and facing threats from powerful enemies.
The Inspiring Story of Aliza Arshad, the Daughter of the Late Arshad Sharif
Arshad Sharif was one of those journalists. He was a renowned Pakistani journalist, writer, and television news anchor who specialized in investigative journalism and covered many political events in the country for national and international news organizations. He was also a vocal supporter of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan and had complained of harassment before he left Pakistan in August 2022.
Murder of Arshad Sharif
On 23 October 2022, he was shot and killed by police in Kenya in a case of mistaken identity. His death caused outrage and grief in his home country, where thousands of people attended his funeral in Islamabad. He was posthumously awarded the Pride of Performance by the President of Pakistan Arif Alvi for his contributions to journalism.

But his legacy lives on through his daughter, Aliza Arshad, who has decided to follow in his footsteps and pursue a career in journalism. Aliza, who is in her early twenties, has joined a local news channel as a reporter. She says she was inspired by her father’s passion for journalism and his commitment to exposing corruption and injustice.
“I always admired my father for his bravery and professionalism. He taught me to be honest, curious, and fearless. He also encouraged me to pursue my dreams and interests. Journalism was one of them,” she says.
