Pakistan’s prominent entertainment network, Geo TV, faces intense public scrutiny and calls for a lifetime ban after a scene in its drama ‘Zabt’ depicting disrespect towards religious imagery ignited widespread outrage.
Pakistan’s television landscape is once again buzzing with controversy as Geo TV, a leading entertainment network, finds itself under fire for a contentious scene aired in its drama ‘Zabt’. This incident comes shortly after Geo News faced backlash during Muharram for its coverage, adding to the channel’s recent string of public relations challenges. The latest development has intensified the debate surrounding content regulation and religious sensitivities in Pakistani media.

At the heart of the current uproar is actress Sara Ejaz, who plays a pivotal role in the scene that has drawn significant criticism. While details about Sara Ejaz’s career trajectory are emerging, her portrayal of frustration in this particular sequence has inadvertently placed her performance, and the drama itself, under a harsh spotlight. The scene’s depiction has led to extensive discussions across social media platforms.

The controversial moment unfolds as Sara Ejaz’s character expresses profound anger by forcefully clearing a bookshelf. During this emotional outburst, an Islamic Studies book, distinctly featuring the revered image of the Khana Kaaba on its cover and containing visible Quranic verses and Hadith, is shown being thrown. This specific action immediately triggered a wave of condemnation, prompting Geo TV to reportedly remove Episode 20 of ‘Zabt’ from its official YouTube channel in response to the escalating public outcry.

The clip’s dissemination across social media platforms has fueled a severe backlash, with numerous users demanding a lifetime ban on Geo TV and calling for an official apology for what many perceive as repeated blasphemous acts. Comments flooded online forums, with one user stating, “Everyone should ban Geo TV for a lifetime,” while another suggested, “Such things are deliberately shown by channels to see how people react, in order to normalize them.” This public outcry, building on previous criticisms of Geo’s Muharram coverage, leaves many wondering how the network will address these serious allegations and what implications this will have for future content creation in Pakistan.
