Actor and influencer Khaqan Shahnawaz recently sparked a crucial conversation, criticizing fellow celebrities for publicly displaying images of sacrificed animals during Eid-ul-Adha.
The recent Eid-ul-Adha celebrations brought forth a wave of social media activity from Pakistani celebrities, some of which drew significant criticism. This year, actor and influencer Khaqan Shahnawaz took a strong stance against the trend of publicly sharing images of slaughtered sacrificial animals, sparking a debate about privacy and respect during religious observances.

Khaqan Shahnawaz, a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, is celebrated for his acting prowess and influential social media presence. Beyond his on-screen roles, Khaqan Shahnawaz is known for his candid opinions and willingness to address societal issues, often leveraging his platform to advocate for thoughtful engagement and responsible digital citizenship.

His recent critique specifically targeted celebrities who posted images of freshly sacrificed animals, stating, “Zibah huay janwaroun ko post karna, jahil honay ki aik nishani hai. Qurbani ke janwar ki izzat karein. Woh Allah ke liye qurban kiye jatay hain, social media par posing ke liye nahi.” This translates to: “Posting sacrificed animals is a sign of ignorance. The sacrificial animal deserves respect because it is sacrificed in the name of Allah. Such moments should not be used for social media posing.” This message came after several public figures, including Ali Raza, Muneeb Butt, Maya Khan, and Jannat Mirza, shared their Eid-ul-Adha rituals. Ali Raza, in particular, drew ire for a complete photoshoot featuring freshly sacrificed goats and posing with knives, while others like Muneeb Butt showcased meat preparation and Jannat Mirza filmed the packaging process.

Shahnawaz’s comments have ignited a broader discussion on the appropriate way to observe religious traditions in the age of social media. It challenges public figures to consider the impact of their online presence, prompting many to reflect on whether certain sacred acts should remain private. What are your thoughts on this growing debate, and how do you believe celebrities should approach such sensitive topics online?
