Shamoon Abbasi Blasts Shaan Shahid and Meera Over Arrogance

Veteran actor Shamoon Abbasi calls out Shaan Shahid and Meera for their arrogant attitude following the release of their Eid film Psycho.

Shamoon Abbasi has set the Pakistani entertainment world ablaze with a blistering on-air critique of two of the industry’s most polarizing figures — Shaan Shahid and Meera. Speaking on Madeha Naqvi‘s morning show Subh Ka Samaa, the veteran actor did not hold back, calling out the duo for what he described as arrogance and a stubborn attitude following the release of their film Psycho, which hit cinemas on Eid al-Adha 2026. The film itself has drawn mixed reactions, with some applauding its concept and performances while others argue the actors still cling to an outdated cinematic approach.

Shaan Shahid, often billed as Pakistan’s biggest film star, has been a dominant force in Lollywood for decades, headlining blockbusters like Khuda Kay Liye, Waar, and Yalghaar. His career has been defined as much by his on-screen intensity as by his outspoken off-screen persona. Meera, one of Pakistani cinema’s most recognizable leading ladies, has had a career spanning over two decades, with notable films including Salakhain and Nazar. Both stars have weathered their share of controversies, but the latest remarks from Abbasi have reignited a broader conversation about ego and humility in the industry.

When Madeha Naqvi posed the question, “Why are we still debating the Karachi vs Lahore film industry divide?”, Abbasi pointed the finger squarely at Shaan Shahid. “This statement is always made by Shaan Shahid. I don’t know why he discusses such controversial things,” he said, adding that the divide was one Shaan himself had created. Abbasi also took aim at Meera, recounting how she had reached out to him two and a half years ago in distress, saying she would commit suicide if she did not receive work. He claimed he provided support, after which she connected with Shaan and the two made Psycho. “After the film release, she started giving statements like Gen Z can’t compete with me. A few years ago, she was literally crying for work, and today she is showing the same arrogance,” Abbasi remarked. He urged both artists to shed their pride, stating, “Artists should not be rude; we should be humble.”

The interview has since gone viral, with fans and critics alike weighing in on social media. While some viewers sided with Abbasi, arguing that his comments reflected a genuine concern for the industry’s culture, others accused him of airing personal grievances on national television. The Karachi-Lahore film industry debate — a topic that has simmered for years — has once again taken center stage, and with Psycho still running in cinemas, the conversation shows no signs of quieting down. Whether Shaan and Meera will respond to Abbasi’s remarks remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Pakistani cinema’s biggest personalities are far from done making headlines this Eid season.
